Start With the Pan, Not the Box

Every whole cheesecake starts life in a springform pan, and that pan decides the box. Most springforms are 2 to 3 in deep; a common 9 in pan is about 2.75 in deep, and tall Japanese-style pans run near 4 in. The baked cheesecake then goes onto a base circle that is wider than the cheesecake itself, and the box has to fit that circle, not the dessert.

That is why so many bakeries end up with a box that looks right on paper and fails at the counter: the cheesecake fits, but the board does not, or the box is tall enough for a plain top but not for cherries piled on it. Our custom cheesecake boxes are drawn from all three numbers at once.

Whole Cheesecake Box Sizes From Pan Diameter

Bakers size boards in two ways: about 2 in wider than the cheesecake (1 in each side), or up to 4 in wider for a decorated edge. The usual rule is to match the box to the board so it cannot slide. The table uses the 2 in rule and a 4.5 in inner height for a 2.75 to 3 in deep cheesecake on its board.

These are typical planning sizes. Slice counts are guidelines and change with how thinly you cut. Your exact dimensions are set from your pan, board and topped height at quoting.

Single Slices and Minis

A slice carton is sized from your cut. A twelfth or an eighth of a 9 or 10 in cheesecake gives a wedge roughly 3 in wide at the crust and 2 to 2.5 in tall, so a wedge or square carton with about 0.5 in of headroom suits it. Mini cheesecakes go in a shallow carton with a cavity insert, sized from the mini pan or liner cup. Send a measured slice and we draw the carton around it.

Who Orders Cheesecake Boxes

• Bakeries and patisseries: windowed cartons for whole cheesecakes in the cold case.
• Cafes and coffee shops: slice cartons beside the espresso bar, plus a few whole sizes for pre-orders.
• Grocery in-store bakeries: clear-window cartons that merchandise in a prepared-food case.
• Cheesecake specialty shops and dessert bars: signature flavours with tall toppings that need extra height.
• Restaurants: whole cheesecakes ordered ahead and slices boxed for the table.

• Online sellers shipping cold: a closed printed carton inside a corrugated outer, with cold-chain packing arranged separately.

Box Styles for Cheesecake

• Tuck-top auto-bottom window carton: the base locks square without glue on setup, the lid tucks, and a die-cut window shows the top. The everyday cold-case box.
• Two-piece base and lid: the cheesecake sits on a shallow base and the lid lifts straight up, so nothing drags across a soft topping.
• Closed tuck-end carton: for orders that travel in a bag or ship in an outer and do not need to show.
• Single-slice carton: wedge or square, often with a sleeve that slides over to close.
• Mini carton with insert: 4 to 12 minis seated in cavities so they do not shift.
• Corrugated shipper outer: a plain or printed outer for shipped orders.

Board for a Heavy, Cold Dessert

A 9 or 10 in cheesecake is dense and heavy for its size, and the box spends hours in a chilled case where it takes on condensation every time the door opens. Board choice balances stiffness, print and moisture.

• SBS, 16 to 24 pt: clean white print surface; 16 to 20 pt suits 6 and 8 in rounds.
• SBS 20 to 24 pt or E-flute micro-corrugated: 9 and 10 in rounds, always with a rigid base circle under the cheesecake.
• PE or aqueous coating: helps the board resist condensation in a cold case. Uncoated kraft can stain or soften when it gets damp.
• Natural kraft: a cottage look with one- or two-colour print, best with a coating or liner for chilled use.

A cheesecake that touches the board directly should sit on a coated base circle or parchment. Food-contact-appropriate liners and coatings can be specified where required. Windows and the Cold Case

A top window often sells a cheesecake better than print alone, because buyers choose on the topping. In a chilled case, though, film can fog when the box moves from cold to warm air, and some films stiffen in the cold. We confirm the window film for refrigerated use before it goes on your carton. If the box ships closed, skip the window and put the money into board stiffness.

Lid height matters as much as window size. The lid should clear the highest point of the topping by at least 0.5 in, because a lid that touches whipped cream or glaze on one side will drag it across the top when the box is tilted.

Print and Finish

Full-colour CMYK on SBS carries flavour photography and a flavour panel on the side. Kraft takes one- or two-colour logos. Aqueous coating is the baseline on chilled cartons; matte or gloss lamination adds scuff resistance; spot UV and foil are optional accents for seasonal runs. A blank flavour panel lets one printed carton cover a full menu with a sticker.

Mistakes to Avoid When Ordering Cheesecake Boxes

• Sizing to the cheesecake instead of the board. The base circle is the true footprint.
• Ignoring topping height. Plan 1.5 to 2 in more height for fruit, ganache or piped cream.
• No rigid base under a soft cheesecake. Flexing the carton base cracks the crust.
• Uncoated board in a chilled case. Condensation softens and stains it.
• Assuming any window film works cold. Confirm it for refrigerated use.
• Light caliper on a large round. A 10 in cheesecake needs a stiffer board or micro-flute.
• Deciding on shipping late. A shipped order needs an outer, and that changes the carton spec.

MOQ starts from 100 on standard sizes. Two-piece lids, multiple diameters in one order, corrugated outers and foil can raise the floor, and we confirm that at quoting. Send your pan diameter and depth, base circle size, topped height, window choice and artwork, and we return a dieline for each size.

Reorders on locked artwork may reduce proofing time because the structure and artwork are already approved, but standard production remains 10–14 business days after artwork approval unless otherwise confirmed.
