A Bangle Box Is Sized From the Hoop Outward

A bangle has no clasp and no slack. It is a closed ring of metal, glass, lac or resin, so the box has to fit a fixed circle rather than a length that can be coiled. Every planning number on this page starts from one measurement: the inner diameter (ID) of the hoop.

From the ID you add the band thickness on both sides to get the outer diameter, then add finger room. That gives the interior footprint. Depth is a separate question, and it depends only on how many hoops sit in the box and how thick each band is.

Bangle Inner Diameter Chart With Planning Footprints

Bangle sizes are commonly written as 2-2, 2-4, 2-6 and so on. The number after the hyphen counts sixteenths of an inch above two inches, so a 2-8 has an inner diameter of 2 8/16, or 2.5 inches. The interior column below assumes a band up to about 7 mm thick plus a few millimetres of lifting room. These are typical planning sizes; the final cavity is set to your actual piece at quoting.

Western brands often sell small, medium and large instead of codes. Published charts put that band at roughly 2.25 to 2.75 inches (57 to 70 mm) inner diameter, but each brand draws its own lines. A "medium" from one maker can be a "small" from another, so send the measured ID, not the label.

How to measure a hoop for packaging

• Inner diameter: inner edge to opposite inner edge, across the widest point.
• Band thickness: inside surface to outside surface of the metal. Fine bands run near 3 mm; chunky ones near 7 mm.
• Band height: how tall the hoop stands when laid flat. This drives stack depth.
• Weight per piece: a solid chunky bangle can weigh around 50 g, which matters for board choice.

Round Hoops vs Oval Bangles

Oval and hinged oval bangles are built to sit closer to the wrist bone, so they are narrower one way than the other. Published oval pieces run around 42 x 55 mm and 47 x 60 mm inner size, with the short axis roughly 10 mm under the long one. A round cavity wastes that difference and lets the oval rotate.

For an oval line, the cavity becomes a rectangle with rounded corners, and the post or channel is cut oval too. If one box must carry both shapes, size it to the long axis of the oval and use an insert that grips the band rather than the inside curve.

Hinged bangles

A hinged bangle opens on a pin and closes with a push clasp or tongue. Both the hinge knuckle and the clasp stand proud of the band, so they add height in one spot. Plan the lid clearance around that bump, and turn the hinge toward a corner of a square box where there is spare room.

Stack Depth: Same Footprint, Different Height

Here is the planning fact that sets bangle boxes apart: a single bangle and a stack of five share the same footprint. Only the depth changes, and it changes in direct proportion to band height times the number of hoops.

A dozen thin glass bangles stacked flat get tall and fragile. Many sellers turn the set on edge in a long tray with a slot per hoop instead, which spreads the load and keeps glass from pressing on glass.

Holding a Hoop: Posts, Channels and Rolls

A chain pad with slits cannot hold a bangle, because there is nothing to thread through it. A hoop is held either by its inner rim or by its outer edge.

• Raised round post: a foam or wrapped dowel the bangle slides over. Holds a single hoop by its inner rim. Cut the post roughly 5 to 10 mm under the ID so the piece lifts off without a fight.
• Circular channel: a groove cut into foam so the hoop lies flat and cannot roll. Good for heavy solid pieces in shipping.
• Slot tray: parallel slots that stand each bangle on edge. Suits sets and glass, and keeps pieces from rubbing.
• Cushion roll: a fabric-covered roll several bangles slide onto, used for travel and multi-piece gifts.

Plated and lacquered finishes mark easily. Use a soft-faced foam or a flocked or fabric wrap where the hoop touches, and keep hard foam edges away from the band. Leave a finger notch or a ribbon pull so the buyer can lift the piece out.

Board Choice for Solid Metal, Glass and Lac Sets

Density decides the build. A boxed set of chunky metal bangles carries real weight in a small footprint, and a thin folding carton will bow at the base.

• Rigid chipboard: the usual pick for solid metal, gold-tone sets and glass. Board in the approximate 1200 to 1500 GSM range is commonly specified for jewelry weight, wrapped in printed or textured paper.
• Folding SBS paperboard: works for a single light fashion bangle on a post. Plan around 18 to 24 pt (0.018 to 0.024 in); GSM equivalents vary by mill, so treat them as approximate.
• Kraft folding board: a natural look for handmade wood, resin or brass pieces at lighter weights.

Lid Styles That Suit a Round Piece

Most bangle programs choose between four closures. A lift-off lid and base gives the cleanest square footprint around a round hoop. A drawer slides the set out on its tray, which helps with stacks. A magnetic flap keeps a heavy set closed in a handbag. A clamshell opens flat for a counter reveal of a single piece.

Round two-piece boxes echo the hoop shape and look right for single bangles. They are less efficient to pack in cartons, so square boxes are common for shipping programs even when the piece is round.

Printing and Finishing

The lid is where the brand mark goes; side walls on a shallow bangle box are short, so keep copy there to a minimum. Offset or digital CMYK prints on the wrap or carton, and foil stamping, embossing and soft-touch lamination are optional add-ons chosen for the look. Who Typically Orders Bangle Packaging

Bridal and festive jewelry sellers order sets in dozens, often glass or lac, and need slot trays and deeper boxes. Stacking-style fashion brands sell three to five fine metal bangles together. Fine jewelers boxing a single gold or silver hoop lean toward a post insert and rigid board. Handmade makers in wood, resin or enamel often want a kraft carton with a channel insert. Each of these is a different depth, not a different footprint.

Mistakes to Avoid With Bangle Packaging

• Sizing to the wrist: the box has to clear the hoop's outer diameter, which is the ID plus two band thicknesses.
• One depth for singles and sets: a box deep enough for a stack lets a single piece rattle. Plan two depths on one footprint.
• Treating oval as round: an oval rotates in a round cavity. Cut an oval channel or post.
• Hard foam against plating: a sharp cut edge can mark a soft finish. Face the insert with fabric or flocking.
• No finger room: a tight post and no notch makes the hoop hard to remove.
• Skipping a fit sample: check the seat on a physical sample before the full run, especially for mixed sizes.
